Due to the fact that the integration of MathJax is relatively easy and it is a basic need for many potential communities, I am tempted to say that it should be in the MVP.
I am certainly biased; however, I would limit it to basic MathJax without any additional packages (for example, Chemistry SE now uses MathJax-mhchem to render the formulas).
