Proposed Code of Conduct

Agreed. Also, I would say that it’s not a good thing either. I probably have way different preferences than you do. Instead of treating others the way you want to be treated, treat other the way THEY want to be treated.

A joke that actually show this pretty well: “Treat others the way you want to be treated. Unless you’re a masochist. Then don’t do that”

Some people apparently like to argue and debate, for example, and some don’t.

I would argue that it would be a mistake to try to write a CoC that would suit a site of the size of current SE. We have to expect to rewrite it over time. Not only for strict improvement, but because a CoC that is suitable for 1000 users is not necessarily suitable for 1,000,000 users and vice versa.

If my memory does still serve, that was one of the things they realized at SE when they rewrote the CoC. I’m not talking about the last horrible version.

So what I’m saying is that when we write the CoC, we should focus on making it work for a small community, not a big.

I completely agree. However, I want to be humble about the fact that I don’t know how it is to be transsexual. Well, I have transsexual friends that I have talked to, but I have not experienced it myself.

But during all my years on SO, I have NEVER felt that my gender has been relevant in any single way. We’re discussing programming. My gender or sex has absolutely nothing to do with my code. So I really cannot see why this can be an issue. I don’t know if anyone here knows my gender or sex, and I don’t care.

Same with religion. I have some strong opinions there, but I won’t tell what they are, because it’s not relevant. I could be ultra religious or fanatically atheistic. But when would there ever be a need to mention my religious views on a programming forum?

@ArtOfCode I believe we reached consensus here on changing the “hate speech” part to instead describe the actual behaviors that are problematic. Where are we on implementing this?
